Landing in the Small Isles, amble beneath the pitchstone lava plug of An Sgurr on the wildlife haven of Eigg. On Canna, delight in the tiny paradise of Canna House Walled Garden, saved from neglect by the National Trust for Scotland.

The secrets of oysters are revealed at Isle of Skye Oysters, by the crystal waters of Loch Harport, backed by the distant MacLeod's Tables. Visit majestic Dunvegan Castle, ancestral seat of the MacLeods for over 800 years, set in attractive gardens.

Travel through the awe-inspiring Trotternish Peninsula, punctuated by bizarre rock pinnacles, to Flodigarry, rich in Jacobite associations. Against this dramatic backdrop, enjoy lunch at Flodigarry Country House Hotel, of which Flora MacDonald's cottage now forms part.

Explore colourful Portree, where MacNab's Inn was the scene of her final parting from Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1746. Saunter in the idyllic setting of Plockton, mirrored in the sparkling waters of Loch Carron, and cruise the contrasting landscapes of Loch Hourn and Loch Nevis. Ashore in wild Knoydart, stroll at Inverie. Learn more of Skye and the MacDonalds at Armadale Castle and Gardens, where their heritage is depicted at the Museum of the Isles. On the Small Isle of Rum, experience the extremes of the Edwardian era in the time-slip of Kinloch Castle, the first private residence in Scotland to be electrified. Muck, the smallest of the Small Isles, is wonderfully tranquil on our last afternoon.
