From Ardfern travel to the unassuming landscape of Kilmartin Glen, boasting over 800 ancient sites, where Dunadd Fort is, for many, the birthplace of the Scottish nation.

Admire the vivid rhododendrons, azaleas and a host of other spring blooms in the mossy woodlands of Arduaine Garden, peacefully overlooking Loch Melfort. Ashore on Rum, enter the Edwardian time-capsule of Kinloch Castle, opulently built for playboy Sir George Bullough, incorporating the latest technology of the day. Onwards to Canna, where the two acre Canna House Walled Garden, planted by Sir John Lorne Campbell, has been lovingly restored by the National Trust for Scotland.

Cruise the wild beauty of Loch Nevis to a world apart in Knoydart, home to the remotest pub on mainland Britain, The Old Forge, at white-washed Inverie. By scenic Loch Duich, cross to Eilean Donan Castle, stronghold of the MacKenzies of Kintail, powerfully poised on an islet where three great sea-lochs meet. North to Loch Ewe, wonder at the accomplishment of the young Osgood MacKenzie, creator of the world-famous subtropical paradise of Inverewe Gardens on the rocky wastes of High Lump.

Sailing for Skye, revisit 800 years of MacLeod history at Dunvegan Castle, silhouetted majestically against a rugged backdrop, and taste fresh oysters, learning the secrets of seafood at an oyster farm by Loch Harport in the afternoon. Stroll and shop at colourful Georgian Tobermory before an afternoon visit to ancient Duart Castle, ancestral seat of the MacLeans, enjoying unsurpassed views from its rocky promontory.
